Here's the solution for a damaged
Nokia N96 that result keypad failure or malfunction due to wet or water
damaged, accidentally heavily dropped. This solution can be used as a guide for line tracing each particular keys that unable to work or respond when being pressed.
The solution below showed each keypad line connection between other keys on the PCB board.
The Nokia N96 keypad assembly are composed of the upper key which the navigation and music control keys and the lower part is were the NUMERIC keys since Nokia n96 is a slider type designed.
Since the upper keys are being connected and assembled on a flex or keypad matrix membrane, you can easily determine if the flex cable is faulty or already damaged if some of this keys will stop to function while the NUMERIC keys is still working.
Now if both upper and lower keys stop responding, you may then suspect that the problem lies on a faulty or damaged keypad filter IC.
If just only one or two keys that stop to responding, you may refer to the solution above and trace where is is being connected and check if the line is open or cut then manage to reconnect the broken again.
